Choosing Free Fire characters: roles every squad needs
Why roles matter more than tier lists
Character abilities are rebalanced regularly, so a list that was accurate last season may be outdated now. What stays stable is the job each player does in a squad. If you understand the role, you can pick a suitable character from the current roster in a minute.
The rusher
A rusher opens fights, takes space and keeps pressure on enemies. This role suits players with good close-range aim and quick decisions. Look for abilities that help with movement, shield recovery or speed. The risk is overextending, so rushers need teammates to follow up.
The support or healer
A support keeps the squad alive. Healing, shield help or revive speed make your team much stronger in long fights. Supports win by staying behind the rusher, trading smartly and reviving quickly rather than chasing kills.
The scout
A scout finds enemies before they find you. Abilities that reveal nearby players or give information help the whole squad rotate and prepare. This is a great role for a calm player who likes to read the game.
The anchor
An anchor holds a position, covers the squad with a long-range weapon and watches flanks. Abilities that improve defence or accuracy while stationary fit here.
How to choose
Pick the role that matches how you naturally play, then read the current ability descriptions and choose the character that supports it. Practise with that character in training before you take it into ranked or a paid tournament. In a squad, talk before the match so you do not end up with four rushers and no healer.
